Meet Our Team

Jay Thorne - CEO

My name is Jay Thorne. I was raised in Tonganoxie, Kansas where I attended K-12th grades in the same district. After graduation I enlisted in the United States Army Reserves, basic training was at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina as a wheeled vehicle mechanic.

In January of 2003, our Reserve unit was activated to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In April we were sent to Kuwait to transport tanks throughout Iraq. We returned home in May of 2004.

I attended Wyotech where I majored in Business and Diesel Technology.

In 2007 I decided to go active duty in the Army. We were sent to Ansbach, Germany 12th Combat Aviation Brigade. In 2009 I volunteered to be a door gunner in Blackhawk helicopters, we ended up being stationed all over Iraq to include Mosul, Balad and Basrah.

2011, I changed duty stations to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where I served another deployment and decided to get out of the Army in 2015.

2021, I founded the Veterans Outdoors Foundation.

VOF Board Members

  • Hunter Thomas – President

My name is Hunter Thomas and I am the current President of Veterans Outdoors Foundation. I was born and raised in Paola, Kansas and currently live here with my girlfriend Madi and dog Remi. I am an extremely avid outdoorsman, finding joy in hunting, trapping, and competitive archery. I manage Roth Outdoors, an archery shop in Paola throughout the week. There I service archery equipment, teach new archers ways around a bow, and gather with our consumer base to share the latest outdoors stories we experience in the woods. I have previously served as the Treasurer for VOF and cannot wait to see how my role evolves in expanding the group’s reach for years to come.

  • Suzi Santoyo - Treasurer

My name is Suzi Santoyo and I am the current Treasurer of Veterans Outdoors Foundation. I was born in Fort Leavenworth, KS at the Army Hospital. I am proud to say my parents are both Veterans of the US Navy. I have raised two outstanding young men whom I have loved every minute of the outdoors adventures we have had since the day they were born, almost 23 and 22 years ago. My passions/hobbies are horseback riding, camping, fishing, kayaking, hunting and competitive archery. I have given to many Veteran organizations for years not only because my family are Veterans but because all Active duty, Retired, those we have lost, and Veterans are so very important to me. Never forgotten and no hero ever left behind! I am honored to get to be a part of this organization! I love to see how much recognition and involvement VOF has gained since they started and looking forward to see VOF grow.

  • Madi Folsom - Secretary

My name is Madi Folsom and I am the current Secretary of Veterans Outdoors Foundation. I was born and raised in Paola, also where I currently live with my boyfriend, Hunter, and our dog, Remi. New into the world of hunting, I shot my first turkey in 2020 and since then have enjoyed time outdoors hunting both turkey and whitetail deer. I work as a customer service agent in the outdoor industry and love to hear stories from those around me of their recent success stories in the woods. I find happiness in spending time with my friends, family, and dog, completing puzzles, and curling up with a good movie. My family tree hosts many veterans and I am proud to give back what I can to those who sacrificed everything. I am excited to watch VOF blossom into a nationwide group assisting those in finding a passion within the outdoors.
